    Congress isn’t done when it comes to the discussion on the energy workforce. 

    Katie Mehnert, our Founder and CEO visited DC to testify about the energy workforce the future in February. This week we heard back from Energy Committee Chairman Pallone and Honorable Joseph P Kennedy (D-MA).

    Question 1:  The transition to a green economy presents the U.S. with incredible workforce opportunity but also, of course, workforce disruption. How should Congress be proactively thinking about support for workers, families, and communities that have depended on the fossil fuel industry for jobs and economic development for generations?

Regarding Questions 1 and 2 concerning workforce for the future: Thinking simply, it would be advantageous to give those in the workforce already involved in the oil and gas industry training and early entry into economic development sector job opportunities. The lack of experience in economic development should not be viewed as a negative; the experience and years working in the fossil fuel industry can easily be converted into the economic sector with appropriate training and guidance. As someone who has worked in many different industries including oil and gas, it has not been a challenge to switch gears. These people and their communities can turn the course of change into an advantage by training early for new responsibilities. The world around us is constantly changing and good, hard-working employees will more than be up for the challenge.
